I joined Staf on the 1st of September with little knowledge into the world of looked after young people. I am going to be organising the events Staf holds for workers and young people. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to go along to a focus group run by Pamela on Continuing Care, held in Fife Council Offices. Hearing first hand from the practitioners who work with young people whoa re reaching their late teens and how the new legislation gives them more opportunity to stay with their foster family or in children's houses is encouraging. However, as an outsider looking in, it seems that local authorities face challenges. To ensure the young person can stay where they are is not an easy job to do.

I also got the opportunity to go along to the Supported Lodgings and Supported Carers focus group run by Mike Rodden. This again was an interesting group of practitioners sharing openly about the day to day difficulties they face. It also seems that there is a need for a national campaign to raise awareness on fostering recruitment.

Last week I was involved in organising the Managers' Forum held last week in Stirling. This was a really interesting event. I especially enjoyed hearing about ACEs and how they can affect an individual's health and wellbeing later in life.
