Over the past year, through our Managers' Forums and Practitioners' Gatherings, we have focused on how we can overcome trauma, adversity, deal with vicarious trauma and create hope.

Despite being a passionate and committed workforce, we know that supporting one another and our young people can often be challenging and stressful.

In this final course before the summer break, we will explore how stress relief techniques can be applied to ourselves, our teams and the young people we support.

Gerald NeilGerald Neil, himself care-experienced, will facilitate this course.

Using his skills and experience as a stress and relaxation therapist, he will guide participants through what he had to learn to understand and empower his own healing from the impact of traumatic experiences.

Now a successful accountant, family man, qualified stress and relaxation therapist and affiliate member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, he is passionate that we all have access to the same techniques that work.

Over the course of three hours, he will help deepen our understanding of how we can support recovery from trauma and give us tools and techniques that will help us remain emotionally available, regardless of the pressure.

What you will learn

  • How the brain works in handling stress
  • How to develop strategies to downgrade the effects of stress quickly
  • How to spot the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and apply techniques to manage the stress response to perceived adversity
  • How to use self-induced relaxation to boost confidence and self-esteem
  • How to stop living by the memories of the past and become excited about the possibilities of the future

"A person's needs are best met by a person whose needs are met."

Downgrading the effects of stress will boost the immune system, increase confidence, boost energy, improve sleep and enhance states of wellbeing.

This course focuses firstly on our needs as workers, and considers how you can use what you learn to support the young people in your care.
