What is the participation practitioners' forum?
The participation practitioners' forum is a free monthly event for participation workers supporting young people with care and justice experience to connect with, and learn from, each other: sharing successes, reflecting on challenges, and championing examples of best practice in an informal setting.

The forum was set up in response to restrictions on physical meetings and gatherings - as those delivering participation work across the country have had to rapidly and creatively adapt their approach, and we have been connecting with monthly Zoom calls.

The forum has a particular focus on engaging workers that support care-experienced young people in the justice system, and on utilising digital tools to creatively support young people.

Who facilitates the forum?
The forum is facilitated by Youth Justice Participation Worker, Ruth Kerracher, alongside Youth Just Us young people. Ruth works across both Staf and The Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ) on the 'Youth Justice Voices' project - a key aim of which is to improve participation opportunities for care and justice-experienced young people.

When is this next meeting of the forum?
The next meeting of the practitioner’s forum will take place via Zoom on Thursday 28th September from 10.00am – 11.30am.

What will we be discussing?

Group work and participation – what are the key tools and principles?

Our next participation practitioners forum will focus on group work. With a particular focus on sharing practice, tools and training ideas and resources which can better support participation practitioners who are undertaking group work. As always our focus will be in relation to supporting participative practice with care and justice experienced young people.

We are inviting interested attendees to come along to this informal session ready to share ideas, useful tools/resources and to be open and supportive of their fellow colleagues.
