Staf is a membership organisation that was established in response to concerns that frontline practitioners shared about the major difficulties care leavers experienced during their fragile transition to adulthood and independent living. Today, more than 20 years later, we continue to work with our members and other local partners to share and raise issues and solutions facing this vulnerable group of young people.

We are the only membership organisation in Scotland working across, and including in our membership, 32 local authorities and 40 voluntary sector and independent organisations. These include service providers, commissioners, Corporate Parents, regulators, educators and young care-experienced people.

At the heart of all of our work is the voice of care-experienced young people and those who work closely with them. We aim to support them through our work in policy influence, sharing best practice, networking and collaboration and learning and development.

If you are interested in finding out more about current vacancies or volunteering opportunities, please contact Sandra.

Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Bill – Standing Up for Scotland’s Children or Simply Standing Still?

Currently at Stage 1 in the Scottish Parliament, this Bill aims to change the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR) to 12 years of age from the current level of 8 – the lowest in Europe. Our article questions whether the Bill goes far enough, and whether it truly works to support Scotland’s children and young people.
