This is a research project about friendship and care experience. It will involve care experienced people and throughcare and aftercare workers being supported by staff from Staf and from the Universities of Edinburgh and Stirling.

The aim of the project is to find better ways of supporting the friendships of people with care experience. This will be done by doing research together and developing a Framework for Friendship Focused Support and Ideas for Change materials. This Framework, and the materials that we design to go with it, will help everyone in the care system to better understand the importance of friendship and give them practical ideas and strategies for the best ways to support friendship.

We are planning to involve 10 care experienced people and 10 throughcare and aftercare workers. We are hoping to have representation across 10 different organisations across Scotland. Each care experienced person will work alongside a throughcare and aftercare worker of their choice to investigate how friendship is supported in their organisations. Together they will identify examples of good practice, as well as areas that need to be improved or be developed.
