Staf has been working as part of a consortium of organisations, which has been meeting regarding the implementation of Continuing Care (Part 11 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act (2014).

The organisations taking part in the consortium are: Aberlour Child Care Trust, Barnardo's Scotland, CELCIS, Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland, Clan Childlaw, Fostering Network Scotland, Staf and Who Cares? Scotland.

Our Implications of Continuing Care focus group met in February 2018, and as part preparation for the meeting with Ms Dugdale, we focused on identifying, sharing and considering the obstacles to implementing Continuing Care, and (more positively) at the good practice already taking place across Scotland.

In addition to this, at our Supported Lodgings and Supported Carers focus group meeting in March, attendees identified similar issues for young people being supported in a throughcare and aftercare capacity. This meeting highlighted a very confused landscape of language and terminology sepcifically around young people in foster care reaching age 18 years or opting for Continuing Care at an earlier age.

Following these focus group meetings, Staf produced a report on the Implications of Continuing Care, highlighting the issues our members had raised and some of the potential solutions.
