On Friday 12th July, NHS Education for Scotland (NES), in partnership with The Scottish Government, officially released The Scottish Psychological Trauma Training Plan. The plan seeks to equip the workforce with the ability to identify the appropriate training and skills required to ensure that those affected by trauma receive the best possible care.

On the publication of the plan, Staf CEO Norma Corlette commented:

‘We greatly welcome the publication of the new Scottish Psychological Trauma Training Plan, which further cements Scotland’s status as a world leader in promoting recovery and healing from trauma.

Here at Staf, we are committed to supporting the workforce to build on their understanding of trauma and embed this learning in everyday practice. As Clinical Psychologist Dr Karen Treisman notes: ‘every interaction is an intervention’ – that’s why it is so crucial for frontline workers, whatever their role, to have access to appropriate training.

This new plan is an important step forward in creating a truly trauma-informed culture across all facets of Scottish society, with positive relationships at the heart.’

Norma Corlette is a member of The Scottish Government’s National Steering Group on Trauma Training, jointly representing The Coalition of Care Providers in Scotland (CCPS) alongside Barnardo’s Director Martin Crewe.
